Abstract Why public-private partnership is key for innovation with open geo dataThe Dutch government has a wealth of geo-information, largely open and free for reuse by the private sector. In recent years open data has become a major goal of government policy. Re-use of open data can bring innovation and enables new forms of collaboration between government, private sector and citizens. However, re-use of open data is still limited. One of the reasons for the limited use outside the 'traditional' geo domain is that the web world is relatively unknown to geo-information and how it is constructed. Furthermore, geo-information is poor findable via search engines, requires knowledge of geo-specific standards and often there is a lack of practical documentation. Open geo data is unknown and unloved, with the result that the potential of many open government data remains unused. In this talk I will adress the main issues which block re-use and innovation and I will propose a few strategies to strenghten public-private partnerships.
