He is contributing editor of GIM International and editor of the ISO 19152 Land Administration Domain Model.Abstract Good land governance requires the support of good land and geospatial data considering that a majority of humanity does not enjoy secure tenure rights. Land administration has a geospatial component providing overview of parcels or spatial units. Relationships between people and land (spatial units) may be of a formal, informal or customary nature. Data models are needed. Fit-For-Purpose Land Administration opens realistic perspectives. Automated feature extraction from imagery may be used. Mobile devices offer a lot of functionality. Legacy data need to be converted. The biggest challenge is to keep the information on those land rights up to date and accessible. A new era in land administration emerges, one underpinned by a wave of innovative thinking and coupled with quickly maturing, scalable and fit-for-purpose approaches.
