BiographyMichael Mayer is working with RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems GmbH located in Horn, Austria since 2007, starting as a Sales Manager for RIEGL Laser Scanners. He graduated from a higher-level secondary college for industrial engineering. Currently he holds the position of the Assistant Director, International Sales, responsible for RIEGL’s worldwide customer base and the RIEGL distribution network. Abstract Data quality from high-end high-altitude airborne laser scanning employing state-of-the-art linear mode LIDAR Airborne laser scanning is the well-established technique to acquire highly accurate and dense 3D data over large areas in reasonable time and at reasonable cost. Recently evolving LIDAR techniques capable of deriving measurement data from detecting only a few photons per measurement are challenging so-called linear mode LIDAR. The latter does not only register the photons received but analyses more of the backscattered laser radiation in a so-called full waveform analysis providing not only much higher accuracy but also additional target features which are of significant advantage in the final data product derived from the airborne survey. However, data acquisition speed of linear LIDAR measured in surveyed area per time has been noticeable slower compared to low-photon-count approaches. We present the data from the most recent high-performance airborne linear LIDAR system with again significantly increased data acquisition speed while sustaining all the advantages like high accuracy, low measurement noise, wide dynamic range, and providing valuable attributes in addition to the 3D content.
