Telekom Malaysia’s Initiative in Public Safety and Disaster Management: The Malaysian Experience
Telekom Malaysia would like to share their experiences and highlight the applicability of Geospatial Technologies in Public Safety and Disaster Management with the usage of Integrated Aerial Services (IAS) as the “Eye On The Sky”.

The IAS is an integrated solution for data collection with live transmission in high definition, common data centre and geospatial analysis using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The Integrated Aerial Services can be applied for public safety sector especially in disaster management, flood monitoring, forest fire monitoring, hazardous material management. Some case studies of real incidents covering earthquake, flood and landslide will be shared to the forum participants.

The usage of UAV for data collection in the public safety sector is more cost effective compare to alternative solutions such as using satellite or helicopter. There are enormous potential for IAS in different sectors. UAV’s utilize different sensors for different missions.

The importance of precise location identification technology (MYalert) is also important in Public Safety and Disaster Management to locate and send early warning messages to the people in potential disaster area.

IAS and MYalert is a concerted and integrated effort used by Telekom Malaysia to assist the Malaysian Government in the area of Public Safety and Disaster Management. This will set a new benchmark of Public Safety service model benefitting all Public Safety agencies and the public in general. This paper will discuss the idea to advocate IAS and MYalert as a shared services across multiple organizations. Thus avoiding duplication of service and reducing cost while enhancing the integration and sharing of data and quality of service. Thus will help and spur in promoting economic growth.
