The collection of data from many different types of sensor is essential for obtaining geospatial information. Image data comes from cameras operated from space, from the air and from the ground and for many years now this has been supplemented with point clouds collected from laser scanning and data from synthetic aperture radar. The resolution of all these sensors is continually increasing and new sensors such as hyperspectral sensors and video cameras and new platforms like nanosatelites are being developed. This session will cover new sensor technology, new platforms and operating modes such as small satellites, mobile mappers and oblique photography and will look at aspects of operating and processing this data. New sensors open up new applications but the ubiquitous nature of some of these sensors also raises issues of accuracy and reliability which will also be considered.
